Certification
BDAASA regards Demeter certification as the benchmark for biodynamic practice in Southern Africa and encourages all farmers and horticultural practitioners interested in biodynamic agriculture to work towards obtaining Demeter certification.
There are two routes to Demeter certification in Southern Africa :
*Third Party Demeter Certification - a regular inspection and review process according to the International Demeter Biodynamic Standard which is carried out by an accredited Demeter inspector. Farms must be certified organic and product can be sold as Demeter on the international market
*Demeter PGS SA - Participatory Guarantee System - a locally focused quality assurance system where producers evaluate each other.
Organic certification is not a requirement and product can be sold as Demeter
on the local market only.
